A loaded backpack of dreams with some personal objects of use and some coins was the only luggage that Germán Cantillo, a tall, dark and handsome guy carried in his trip to the United States.
As every other emigrant from the central isthmus, the boy did stop in Mexico. The luck was not its ally in that country. worked hard and with the little money that he earned would not even buy a split quarter of his dreams. The difference of Cantillo with other immigrants is that he sought more than surviving He wanted to succeed in the music, he wanted to record albums and such, he said. “I arrived in the city of Guanajuato in 1984 and still remember when I visited the church of El Carmen. In the temple was this statue of a virgin, Santa Lucia, to which nobody seemed to approach and since then I could not erase that image off my mind, he commented to Varieties.

After several intents, found his way to California four years later. There with its savings managed to form a group in that state called Amor y Odio. Then it formed a group that carried its same name.

After some time traveled to Canada where managed to conquer thousands and thousands of hearts through its melody. That boy, its now the singer of the band Santa Lucia. The name of my group is for that little statue at the church of El Carmen, recalled.

Santa Lucia managed to introduce rhythms with a high Latin-American content like cumbia and salsa. Cantillo since he was a kid dreamed of playing the guitar. And did not only achieve it, now puts his voice to the melody that strikes its cords.
“The streets” is the name of its first CD, it includes thirteen songs, the majority of them elaborated by Cantillo. Compositions like Girl, For your love, The reflection and others are the inspirations of this nica conqueror of dreams. The streets, is a song that shows the situation that cities and poeple lives when the governments act in an unjust way, commented Cantillo.

In two months and a half Santa Lucia has achieved some sales successes with its firts cd. To date has sold roughly twenty-three hundred copies in Canada and about a couple of thousand copies in Miami. There is a probability that the band might sign a contract with MRP/UNIVERSAL in Canada. The six members of Santa Lucia are united in this dream. The album was finalized last september and is the one that is opening doors for them.
I intend to return to Nicaragua with the entire group, perhaps we’ll be at The Managua Carnival in march, said to Varieties.
